This Monday Morning,
Margie and I Want to Give You
"The Perfect Family Formula”.

Will You Let Us?

Dear Concerned Parent,

After carefully studying families like yours for over 13 years, Margie and I have discovered the formula for a perfect family.

Would you like to have it?

I’m going to give it to you in just a minute, but before I do, let’s see if you are qualified to get it…

Read through some of these bullet points and see if any of them sound familiar (if they don’t, you probably don’t really need the secret formula…)

  • “I’m really concerned about how to discipline my kids. I know they need direction, but I don’t want to push them away from me.”
  • “My children have friends, but I’m not so sure their influence is the best for my kids. How do I help them learn social skills without letting peer pressure destroy their values?”
  • “How do I handle the dozen different challenges that come up in day-to-day living without going crazy… and still be a good mom?”
  • “What do I do about this defiant boy of mine? He’s setting a really bad example for the rest of the children and the house is getting out of control. How do I stop this downward spiral?”
  • “With work, school, and everything else, how do I give my children the individual time, love, and attention they really deserve? I’m just afraid I’m short-changing them.”
  • “Negative behavior and attitudes are just killing our family right now. Everyone is nit-picking and criticizing each other. It’s got to stop… but how?”
  • “How in the world am I going to raise these children with strong God-fearing values in a world that appears to have gone right off the deep-end? It scares me.”
  • “I thought I knew how to communicate… until my children started getting older. Now it seems like we are on totally different planets. How do I bridge the gap?”
  • “How do I get my children to actually WANT to make good choices? They do alright when I’m right there, but don’t seem to be that strong when I’m away… what can I do about it?”
  • “These children of mine seem to always be at each other, tooth and nail. How do I stop this kind of sibling conflict and get them to love each other… I want them to be best friends.”
  • “How do I do it all? Work, kids, social life, sports, school… I just don’t know how to do it all.”
  • “We have family members and relatives that don’t share our standards. Well, actually, you could say we are polar opposites. So, how do I teach my children about the importance of family and unconditional love, without letting them feel like I approve of alternate lifestyles and inappropriate behavior?”

So, How Did You Score?

I’m about to give you the formula for the perfect family… the secret to answering all of these questions (and so many more)… so, if none of these struck a cord, you’d better stop reading now. What I’m about to tell you will have no value and will just be a waste of your time.

Still with me? Good. Here we go…

Let me ask you this question:

Where does the very most valuable parenting and family life insights come from?

  • “Experts” that sit around doing studies and analyzing data collected in sterile laboratories?
  • Clinical psychologist and counselors that do therapy sessions with the most extreme negative family cases?
  • Deeply concerned government officials who build family programs and websites so they can look good and gain more votes?

Hummm, could be. But then again…

Margie and I have our own opinion on the matter, but we wanted to see what others thought. So, we did a bit of research on our own.

We surveyed hundreds and hundreds of parents just like you and asked them where they got their best pieces of wisdom and advice - the kind that really helps and makes a difference.

You know what they said?

Other Successful Parents.

Isn’t that wonderful?!

And really, it makes sense, doesn’t it? If you want to know how to deal with a difficult child, a wayward son, a boomerang kid, or any other number of family challenges…

wouldn’t you want to hear how other parents successfully handled the same situation?

Of course… you want to know real solutions that work today, right now, in real homes… and ones that you can easily and quickly implement.

That is what Margie and I always wanted… real parenting wisdom that was tested and proven in the home laboratory… in real life. We wanted to know the formula for a perfect family life.

Well, we figured out a way to get it and we’d like to share with you. Will you let us?

We Discovered
"The Perfect Family Formula"
Playing a Game

For more than 13 years, Margie and I have been playing a really fun game that is going to change your family life forever.

Here’s how the game works…

First, you have lots and lots of children really close together. That way you are sure to have lots and lots of opportunities to deal with a wide range of family challenges.

Then, you start off totally and completely clueless… but think you know everything. (This is an important aspect of the game… you have to be a know-it-all in the beginning so you can really feel the pain when life mercilessly humbles and humiliates you!)

Next, you become completely worn out trying to be a know-it-all and start looking around for help to save your sanity, your children, your marriage, and your life.

Add Correct Principles,
Ideals and Values

After that, the fun really starts… you find a source of wisdom that is indisputable, solid, and immovable so you can learn all the right principles to raising children and being happily married. Of course, for Margie and I, this source is God. He knows everything.

But, even after we started getting a hold of the right principles, we struggled with how to use them in our day-to-day family life.

Implementation can be a real bear sometimes! If you’ve ever tried to put a bike together late on Christmas Eve, you know exactly what I’m talking about here.

So, the next step in our little game was to find parents who had already successfully “been there, done that”. We went to their homes, interviewed them, asked questions, and did all we could to learn from them… from both their mistakes and their successes.

Now, Put it All Together...

With correct principles AND real life application in hand, we went back to our home, bursting with children, to see if we could implement what we’ve discovered.

Ohhhh, and what a game it is! For over 13 years we have been loving it. And, the results have just been miraculous!

Did you catch it? The secret to a perfect family life?

Let me spell it out for you like this:

Correct Principles + Proven, Real Life Experience x Personal Application =
The Perfect Family.

Now, if it is that easy, do Margie and I have the perfect family. Nope. And neither does anyone else.

But, we sure feel like we have it pretty good.

More than that, we feel confident that, with this formula in hand, we can tackle any and every challenge that comes our way.

And so can you… and we want to help you have this same joy and confidence.

Confidence to Face Any Challenge,
Hope to Look Forward

So, how are we going to do that?

Well, we are going to give you access to a tool that will give you the first two elements of the “Perfect Family Formula”… correct principles and real life experience from other parents in applying those principles.

One small aspect of that tool is our Monday morning “Parenting Power Call”.

Every morning at 10 am, Margie and I jump on the phone with parents like you from all over. During the week, we receive emails, asking questions and we answer these questions using, easy, straight-forward answers that you can use right away.

More than that, we weave correct principles (as far as we know them) into the mix... and when we don't have an answer, we find people that do.

Do you have family and parenting questions that are stumping you? Just email us and we'll do our best to give you answers that help.

The Perfect Family Tool
Is Here For You

But that is just one little aspect of our "Perfect Family" resource. Would you like me to tell you more about it?

We call it “The Home Feeling Community”… that’s because we have found that a smooth running, happy home has a powerful, magical feeling about it.

There's just something about “home” that touches each of us at the core, and stirs happiness and joy and peace like nothing else can do.

We want you and your family to get that magical, special “home feeling”. And you can… and if you already have it now, you can grow it and make it bigger and bigger.

The Magic of "Home"
Never Stops Growing

That’s part of the magic behind the home feeling… it has no bounds! It can grow and grow and grow, getting stronger and more enjoyable day-by-day, week-by-week, year-by-year. Wherever you’re at now, I promise you, life can get so much better.

Well, let’s take a quick look inside this great tool we’re putting together for you… you know, like family, it is a work in progress, always growing, always getting stronger.

Step Inside
The Home Feeling

Here are some of the tools and resources you’ll find inside www.TheHomeFeeling.com:

• Monday Morning “Parenting Power Call” – Every Monday morning, Margie and I jump on the phone and have a short, 27 minute conference call with parents just like you. Each week, before the call, parents from all over email us their most pressing questions.

We give straight forward, easy-to-use advice, ideas, and insights. And, if there is a topic we don’t know much about, we’ll bring on another parent or expert with the right answers.

Each call is recorded and archived and categorized. You’ll have unlimited access to these powerful calls – day or night.

So, if you have a question, just drop us a line. We’d love to hear from you!

  • Exclusive Parenting Video Interviews – Ok, this costs us a lot of time, travel and energy… but, oh boy! is it ever worth it. We are running around with a video camera, interviewing parents. We try to get them to give us the best of their best insights on what they do best as a parent.

All of those interviews are categorized so you can search them by topic. Most of them are short, like 5 or 10 minutes… but some are longer. We don’t restrict the time, but just let these parents talk about the topic they do best.

It’s really fun. I think you’ll love it! Just imagine having access to tons of videos with real life parenting experts. Plus, you can ask them questions, share ideas, and give feedback through the blog, forum and comment board.
  • Complete Audio Files – All of the interviews will also be available in MP3 format. Download them as often as you’d like… burn them to CD or enjoy the interviews on your iPod (or any of the other MP3 player thingies out there…)
  • Library – Gain unlimited access to an ever-increasing supply of free eBooks, seminars, training programs, family activities, vacation ideas, audio books, and other invaluable resources to help you as a parent. All these parenting resources are free inside the Library and the inventory will grow day by day.

  • Bookstore – Some family resources cost money, but they are well worth it. We are constantly and carefully reviewing books, music, movies, seminars, and other tools for raising families and being parents. We proudly offer you our very best collection of family oriented resource.
  • Community Forum – Come and interact with other excited, concerned parents. Discuss ideas, exchange stories, and strengthen each other.

  • Exclusive Blog – Every now and then, I post some of the most valuable parenting lessons that we’re experiencing as parents of eight high energy kids. More than anything, the blog is a way to share and start a beneficial discussion on a wide range of topics and issues.
  • Constant New Content – Every day, every week, every month we are adding videos, articles, books, resources, and insights. As your life changes, we’ll be right there for you, ready with new wisdom from other parents around the globe.
  • You! – One of the most valuable things about The Home Feeling is you! We want your comments on the blog, your insights on the forum, and your interviews on video and MP3. As a parent you have so much to give to other parents… far more than you may believe. Come and share it! After all, that is what community is all about!

Now, Let Me Ask You a Question…

What parenting or family challenge concerns you the most right now in your life?

What if you could find another parent with kids just like yours who had gone through something very similar… and figured out how to fix it?

Wouldn’t life be so much easier for you if they gave you the answer and all you had to do was put it to work? Far too many of us parents try and reinvent the wheel or are stubborn and want to always be the exception.

You Aren't Still Playing "Know-it-All"
Are You?

And some of us have so many labels and reasons and pet “woe is me!” ideas floating around in our heads, that we don’t want to ask for ideas that work… because, gasp! what if the advice actually worked… it would take away our excuses and our comfort zone of pain and pity.

If that is where you are at, then “The Home Feeling Community” is definitely not for you. It really isn’t. And I wish you all the best in the miserable life you’ve carved out for yourself.

But, if you’re not like that… and I suspect that if you’ve read this far, you’re not… I would like to invite you to join us as a member of The Home Feeling Community.

Membership is So Rewarding...

Joining The Home Feeling Community is very simple and affordable. We made it that way because we know you have a lot on your plate and many demands on your money.

I know that being a part of this kind of powerful support system has made all the difference for Margie and I. When we have had major struggles and challenges in life, other wise and successful parents have been there for us… and continue to be there as we face new challenges each day.

We want to give you that same kind of comfort, support, strength, hope, and happiness.

Let me share with you one quick story to illustrate what I mean…

Parenting Advice That Changed
Our Son’s Life

Years ago, our oldest son was really struggling… and I mean really.

He was always beating up on himself… constantly fighting with the other children… and mostly negative about everything around him.

Margie and I tried a number of different approaches… loving, saying positive things, encouraging, and then spanking, serious talks, taking away privileges, … etc, etc, etc…

We put both ends of the positive and negative parenting perspective into play… but nothing seemed to be working. In fact, in most cases, the fight in the kid just kept on getting bigger and bigger.

Tapping Into
The Support Team

So, in a bit of desperation, I turned to a good friend of ours that had successfully raised four children.

I still remember sitting in Applebee’s at the end of Custer Ave in Helena, MT. A huge grilled chicken sandwich sat on my plate, but I hadn’t taken one bite. For the past 35 minutes, I had been spilling my guts to this seasoned parent and he had been patiently listening.

Finally, I ran out of steam. So, I sat back, took a bite of my sandwich, and started listening.

The answer was short, sweet, and totally applicable… as most answers are from wise people that love us.

Priceless Advice
Endless Blessings

“Joshua,” he said, “It sounds like what your son really needs is a whole bunch of one-on-one time with dad. I think I’d find a way to get your boy alone with you for a while, without all the stress and strain of the house going on. He needs to know he’s special. Get him alone for a few days… then you’ll know what to do.”

With that, he sat back, enjoying his salad, and changed the subject.

I know, it sounds silly and very simple. But it was exactly what I had needed to hear.

Washington, DC
Does The Trick

As fate would have it, not long after doing lunch at Applebee’s, an opportunity came up for me to drive another friend’s car back to Washington, DC… a 4 day drive from Helena, MT.

I decided to take my son with me – just the two of us and 2,200 miles of windshield time.

It was by far the best parenting move we ever made with Joshua. We still talk about walking all over the Mall, climbing the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, and running as hard as we could half way across town so we didn’t miss closing time at the National Archives (he really, really wanted to see the Declaration of Independence!)

And, no, he didn’t change overnight… but it was the beginning of the end of our troubles with this boy. From then on, things have gotten progressively better.

Today, I’d count him as one of the most responsible, loving, hard-working boys his age I’ve ever seen. And it’s not just me, others say the same. He’s really one-in-a-million.

The Miracle is In Using
The "Formula"

So, why did that miracle occur? Because I was willing to ask for help from a seasoned parent… and I was willing to give his suggestion a try.

There is no telling how much pain, frustration, heartache, and tears that one conversation had. Likewise, there is no telling how many blessings one simple conversation with a seasoned parent has brought into our lives.

We want that same thing for you. Those kinds of miracles, solutions, and blessings are at the heart of The Home Feeling Community.

"Spend A Week At Josh and Margie's"

Thanks soooo much. I loved reading "7 Secrets of Successful Parenting". Some of it brought me to tears. At the end I was wanting more, not that you left anything out I just wanted more of what I read. Does that make sense? Then I thought, 'I want to go spend a week or two at Josh and Margie's to see how they do everything.' I've actually had that thought before, but after reading your talk I wanted to do it even more. I agree with all of your points and the way to implement them into my family's life. Well I love you and wish your family well.

"I Am So Excited"

My husband has just finished his PhD and is taking a contracting job away from us for a few months. I am so excited to have this for our 5 boys during this time-- we will all love it! Thank you for doing it and for making it available.

"It Gave Me Hope"

I just listened to 7 steps to successful parenting while I was on the tread mill. I will tell you that I actually started listening to it yesterday but had to turn it off do to the fact that it made me feel like a failure as a mom. I don't know if you have heard anything about our family lately but in 2007 I discovered what it felt like to have my heart torn out and stepped on so to speak.... But today I listened to the whole talk and I want to thank you. I admit I even got a tear in my eye! It gave me hope and a few ideas on things to try.

"Very Encouraging and Helpful"

Hi Joshua,

I just wanted to thank you for your article "Parenting with Style". It was very encouraging and helpful to me. I had heard of the four humours before, but you explained it in a very relevant practical way.

I really admire you and your wife setting such a positive family role model for others to look up to.

Thanks so much,

"God Bless You and Your Family"

Thanks very much Joshua... I'm learning about my husband also, as well as myself - the practically perfect melancholy (not)??!!! Isn't life grand, and fascinating.

I have three children - who are now young adults. A wonderful mix of personalities: one sanguine, one phlegmatic and one rather like myself so it's a little harder for me to see the 'forest for the trees'. I'm pondering that one a little bit.

Thanks for all the information. I love the lighthearted and thorough list (there's a melancholy for you) for each of the types. What I've learned from personality types in general is that we are all a mix of strengths and weaknesses and often the weaknesses is a result of the strengths - therefore we are just right the way God created us. As you've pointed out with children, its very handy to have a heads up so we (parents) are not drawn into the weaknesses. My sanguine is the social butterfly, always on the go with gangs of friends, ready to have a fun time; my phlegmatic is the sweetest, kindest young man always willing to lend a hand and loves working with the youth at church (a real steady, reliable type); and my melancholy is the best listener, so empathetic and understanding, wanting the best for others - she's also very efficient, which I love.

Have a wonderful day. May God bless you and your family today,
Maggie

"Thank You For Sharing Your Gift"

The reality of life is that the breakdown of the family is sorely damaging society's values and influencing the judicial system etc... While restoring two parent homes and obliterating out-of-wedlock childbirth is unfortunately almost impossible, the information and encouragement you offer is a sweet step for hope in the conditions that now prevail. Truly no other success will be as rewarding as that which we accomplish within the walls of our own home! AND the message you offer extends to all interpersonal relationships which affects those outside our homes as well. Keep up the good work and thank you for sharing your gift.

-- Carol Van de Wetering

"Very Helpful"

To Joshua, The Home Feeling,

I would like to say thank you so much for the recent Home Feeling emails. I have read about the personality types before, but I find it very helpful to brush up on this so I can better understand others.

Thanks so much for your time efforts to help families.
